AI-Powered Postprocessor Development
An AI agent writes and debugs your postprocessor inside the ENCY generator — a working post in a day, not weeks.
How AI changes postprocessor development
The bottleneck: every machine needs its own postprocessor
- A postprocessor is the translator between CAM toolpaths (CLData) and the G-code of a specific CNC control — without it, no program reaches the machine.
- Writing one has always required a postprocessor specialist — a rare and expensive expertise — and typically takes weeks.
- ENCY 3 removes the bottleneck: an AI agent writes and debugs the postprocessor itself, driving the ENCY postprocessor generator through a programmatic interface.
An AI agent with hands and eyes inside the generator
- The agent connects to the ENCY postprocessor generator via MCP (Model Context Protocol) — the standard protocol that links AI to external tools.
- One MCP server edits the live postprocessor: it reads and writes handler code, configures output register formats, compiles the post and generates G-code.
- A second server reads real CAM data (CLData): the actual commands, cycle parameters and machine info — so the post is built for the data it will actually process.
- Vendor reference posts and the postprocessor language documentation complete the picture.
A fully autonomous debug loop
- Read the CAM data → write a handler → compile → fix every compiler error → generate the NC program → check it against the reference → repeat.
- “Done” means the generator produced correct, verified G-code — the agent never declares success without a real run.
Proven: a working postprocessor in one day
- A 3-axis milling postprocessor for a mainstream CNC control was built from scratch in about one day — by an operator with no postprocessor expertise.
- 26 registers and 18 handlers: program frame, tool change, work offsets, spindle, coolant, compensation, linear and circular moves, a G73 drilling cycle and thread milling — about 3,900 blocks of clean G-code.
- The agent found and fixed a safety defect on its own: an approach move without an explicit G0 — a risk of plunging into the part at feed rate.
- The result was confirmed by an independent run in production ENCY — identical G-code.
An accelerator for experts, an entry point for everyone else
- AI does not replace the postprocessor engineer: in the pilot, an expert review still found two issues the agent had missed (tool-length compensation output and modal drilling cycles).
- A final expert audit of the generated post is part of the workflow — and every finding becomes a checklist item the agent learns from.
- The agent maintains its own knowledge base and documentation, so every next postprocessor comes out better than the last.
Frequently asked questions
No. It is an accelerator for experts and an entry point for non-specialists: the agent takes a postprocessor to a working, verified prototype, and a final expert audit completes it.
The agent compiles the post, generates the NC program from real CAM data and checks the output against references. In the pilot the result was additionally confirmed by an independent run in ENCY, which produced identical G-code.
