EN AW-7075 first op on a 5-axis trunnion: adaptive roughing to finish in LANG Makro-Grip
JHC-KOVO opened a new customer project by running the first operation of an EN AW-7075 aluminum component on a 5-axis trunnion machining center. The Czech shop notes that 7075 wasn't their pick for the job — it was the customer's requirement — and promises a follow-up video with the finished part. The whole job is programmed and posted through ENCY CAM, in partnership with @langtechnik on workholding.
Stock clamped in a LANG Makro-Grip 5-axis vise
The billet sits on a LANG Makro-Grip single-centric vise mounted on the C-axis rotary through a base plate; the trunnion (A-axis tilt visible on the side castings) tips the whole setup off vertical so chips fall clear of the pocket. Makro-Grip's stamped-teeth stock preparation keeps the clamping edge shallow (a few millimetres) and leaves five sides of the part exposed — exactly what the first-op strategy needs to reach the outer contours, the inner pocket, and the shelf features in one setup.
Adaptive roughing followed by high-speed finishing
The inner cavity and the outer contours are opened with adaptive roughing — constant chip-load trochoidal passes with progressive step-downs — before the finishing runs sweep the walls and the raised boss with a small ball-nose endmill at a tight stepover. Bright, tightly curled aluminum chips piled up across the enclosure floor and the mirror-like finish on the pocket walls are the tell-tales of sharp aluminum-geometry tooling running at the right SFM for 7075.
